Half Elf ancestry: Meditative sleep. 4 hours a night.
DOWNTIME
- Greedo sold his silver orcish war axe for 250gp to the Moorland Merchant Management in Fourtower.
- Bill worked for Tritus Greyfon in Thane's Reach, cutting wood and doing construction.
- Midnight-Surf-Ryder practiced and did bad backflips, entertaining laughing dwarves for the past week.
Thane's Reach
5th day of the 6th week of Winter. Snow fall. Cloudy.
Greedo arrived with his visor down, fearful of anyone recognizing him. The guards allowed him in since he was recognizably North Country. Inside, he met Bill and Midnight.
During Bill's work with Tritus, he heard about how he needed a suitable mine and wouldn't mind parting with 500gp pieces to someone who could find one. Their survey teams kept getting lost or maimed. Reinheld was the only one so far that made any headway.
In addition, Draugar said they'd gladly pay the party for retrieving Dwarven deserters.
The Midnight Raiders contracted Greedo into their party to search for a mine.
EXPEDITION 20
6th day of the 6th week of Winter. Bitter cold.
They set out in the morning north through the mountains, finding a broken petrified forest in the foothills.
Travel action. Encounter. 2 Lizardfolk, scavenging. Reaction: wary. Distance: far.
Just as they were cresting the foothills, they spotted 2 Lizardfolk gathering petrified bark, licking them before putting them in wicker basket packs. They were wearing hauberks and heavy furs. Greedo's breath misted in front of him, "Let's see where they are going." They quietly followed the reptiles through the broken ground, stopping when they began to enter the Rotforest. "There is nothing for us there, let's move along."
From their vantage point, they could see a frozen pond that seemed to deposit in an underground river and a massive dolmen by the Rotforest. They chose to make their way to the latter.
Travel action. No encounter.
The Black Dolmen
Midnight gawked at the massive black dolmen. Getting closer, they realized it was stone that drooled black sap, same as the nearby Rotforest trees. Greedo could see the center was full of heat. Through experimentation for around 30 minutes, they discovered that each pass through the portal coated objects with grape juice, then alcohol, and then alcohol would levitate. Midnight told the party that they must come back to this place, and then they departed towards the cave by the frozen pond.
The sun was setting soon. They needed to sleep. Luckily, they happened upon a cave crevice they could set camp up in.
Warm Cave
It had a muddy crevice and another full of honeysuckle that went deeper. They set up camp, creating a snow wall to close the cave except for a small opening.
Camping action. Encounter. 7 Dwarven Deserters looking for a cave. Reaction: unsure.
Party are surprised.
Greedo was startled awake to see a large-jawed dwarf in the cave doorway. "Are you loyal to the king or that cursed dictator?"
Greedo's eyes went wide and his hand found his Warhammer, "The king." The other dwarf put away his hammer, "Then we are allies. Please, by the Mother, let my men and I in. We are freezing."
The others awoke as Greedo warily allowed them in. 7 Dwarves surrounded the warm coals of the fire and Brufec (Dwarf - could crunch your face off, pragmatic, vagabond deserter) told his story.
"That Haalgrad fellow forced us out here against our will on one of the Warwagons. We left at our first opportunity in Thane's Reach. We hope to make our way to Fourtower, unless there are bounty hunters there." Greedo told them he would ensure their safety if they made it to Fourtower. His reputation would be enough.
Midnight pulled out his soul-flute, "Want to play some music?"
The smallest deserter perked up "Ohh! Yes! Yes!"
The group was sparse with words and fell asleep to the sounds of Midnight's flute and the dwarf's miniature harp.
6th day of the 6th week of Winter. Cloudy. Bitter Cold
That morning, they went down the honeysuckle crevice. At the bottom, a puffing hallucinogenic fungi on the ceiling intoxicated Bill and Midnight. Greedo had chicken legs in their sight and then they could see an open door in the cave wall to the Deepwood Lodge which they walked into.
Greedo is startled, then chased after them, allowing himself to be intoxicated as well.
The Deepwood Lodge
Greedo meets Sawbones and aquires an amythyst flute. Midnight and Bill stock up on pumpkin bread and they are allowed back into the Warm Cave.
Warm Cave
They explored the muddy side, meeting a group of myconids.
Reaction: Extremely helpful! (2d6=12)
The myconids were only understandable while the party members were intoxicated. For snowballs, they give them 4 strange mushroom bars that have Body Swap. They let them know they regrow them on a weekly basis.
After finishing their exploration of the warm cave and boding farewell to Brufec's dwarves, they started back to Fourtower.
Travel action. No encounter.
The Rotforest
The first watch they found the Rotforest Gulch. A mineshaft is seen on the bottom along with caves. Midnight convinced them to head back to the Black Dolmen. There, they helped him levitate himself into a zero gravity position weighed perfectly with a backpack full of rocks. They continued South.
Travel action. Encounter. 6 mating lizardfolk. Party have surprise.
Through the trees, Greedo spotted 6 mating lizardfolk (dancing and unarmored, 12 eggs in the middle). The party pushed their floating Half Elf over them to distract while Bill and Greedo stole 7 eggs.
Midnight showed them his soul-flute until Greedo stepped on an egg and ran away. Luckily, the lizardfolk didn't see their violators and bid Midnight farewell, revering him for his floating abilities.
Back in Fourtower, Smith offered them 150gp an egg on the spot. "This is a black market purchase. You'd be in a whole load of trouble if the elders found out you had these. The truce between us and the Lizardfolk is on a knife's edge." The party denied the offer and hid them among their things in the Moorland Magpie Inn.
Midnight-Surf-Ryder's Poetry I saw a dwarf outside of Fourtower
Standing stiff, faced to the trees
The moon was hiding behind the clouds
But the dwarf stood frozen out in the weed
A foot away from the woods turned grey
He stood, stolid, remaining in the dark
No one knew if his presence abode wary
Not even a dog would dare to bark
